Federal eLearning Research Agency
The White House has announced that the 2012 budget will include a request for funds to create a DARPA type agency for education. It will be called the Advanced Research Projects Agency – Education. It will support research on breakthrough technologies to enhance learning. Typical areas include software that is as effective as a personal tutor.
This is direct from the education part of President Obama’s State of the Union address that stated America would “out-innovate, out-educate, and out-build the rest of the world.” The driving goal is to reenergize and provide a long range engine for our economy.
The agency will manage a $2 billion grant program for sharable web-based education tools.
This makes passing of SB1452 even more critical. The heart of SB1452 is the Digital Learning Center. Its design specifications make it the perfect attractor for this new education technology innovation fund. Arizona already has the world’s largest cluster of eLearning enterprises. Our combo of eLearning enterprise cluster and Digital Learning Center integrated with Arizona’s 2100 eLearning adopting schools and leading eLearning research institutes in our colleges of education will make us the perfect state to garner our unfair share of these critical R&D funds.
