GAZeL Board Meeting - Noon, Thursday, January 28, 2010

Alex called the meeting to order at 12:05 PM
Alex thanked Cox Business Services for their remote audio conferencing.
 
Minutes
 
1)      Website/IT: New Website Design / U of A collaboration
Steve was unable to attend today’s meeting so this topic was not discussed.

2)    Networking Events: Upcoming events, Feb.18th and March 16th Events; suggestion for additional speakers

Our upcoming networking event is set for February 18th, at SkySong. Amy Weibel will be the speaker and the topic is assessments. Bobbie thanked Steve for designing the flyer that went out last week via email. There are 9 attendees registered as of today.

Bobbie has secured Fred DuVal, VP of the Board of Regents, to speak at a networking event on Tuesday, March 16th, also at SkySong. The presentation is titled “Solutions Through Higher Education”. The GAZeL board requests Bobbie obtain more specific information on the content to ensure its relevance to e-Learning.

Bobbie will contact Henry Ryng from inXsol to see if he will speak on his latest project for a possible event in May. It was suggested that the May networking event be our last event before we take a break for the summer months.

We do not have sponsors lined up at this time for the February, March or May events.
 
3)      Fundraising/Conference: E-Rate Forum with State Board of Education Officials and other ideas.
Duke has contacted Chris Igle, a consultant who is willing to provide his expertise for an E-Rate Education Conference. The timeline for this event will be in late September or early October to coincide with funding application timelines. Chris suggested a 2-part format where the first session provides an introduction to E-Rate and what is needed to apply. The second session would be a problem solving event where the actual forms are evaluated by experts. Duke will continue to lead this effort.

Alex asked we continue to search out speakers and sponsors for upcoming events.
 
Our next Executive Board Meeting is scheduled for February 11th, 2010. Both Alex and Bobbie will not be available that entire week, so the meeting will be rescheduled by Alex shortly.
