GAZEL                                                                                   2009 Conference Committee

Conference Planning Meeting

~ Minutes ~

October 28, 2008 (audio only) 5:00 PM

Present: (Bold): Joel Bartholemy, Dr. Tim Dosemagen, Bobbie Kraver,

Cindy Saint, Michael Cohen, Sher Downing, Steve Peters

Excused: Alex Devereaux

Tim called the meeting at 5:08

Tim read a message from Cindy Saint in which she pointed out that some people still want to go to a ground conference. Tim pointed out that fund raising could be done in various ways, to include a sustaining profitability model based entirely upon a web-based GAZEL Conference homepage, similar to that of http://www.ted.com. This would ostensibly allow us to charge fees for access of live video-conference presentations, charge fees for access to archived video presentations, and home web page banner ads for speakers, or their businesses, or other sponsors of the GAZEL Conference homepage.

Steve asked if we could put together an environment where we can promote our sponsors. The biggest challenge is getting outstanding presenters in a good environment.

Sher received an email today about a series of virtual meetings that you can pay all at once or one at a time.

Steve suggested that we have a ground location where some people can come and pay $10 for lunch.  If we have a big name speaker and if we don’t have to pay travel we can charge a fee and make money.  If we do both land and virtual conferences, the people who want to come to land versions will mostly be from the Phoenix area. Steve stated that if we get 50 or 60 on line, we could get many venues where people would come.

Date: TBD

Place: TBD; however, Tim will petition his people to use Collins College’s Media Arts facilities on a Friday, at it’s 14th Street Theater, on Priest just north of Broadway in Tempe, Arizona, at little / no charge.

Bobbie added that the CEO breakfast is Jan. 14, 2009.  Then Odyssey volunteered to have a networking event in February.

Steve suggested a series of conferences.

Bobbie suggested one month we have a seminar, taping it for the virtual conference website, and the next month we have a networking event at an eLearning business.

Tim said that while he was serving as Mountain Region - Regional Director of Academic Affairs at the University of Phoenix, he organized Power Breakfasts at the Tucson Campus. These were once per month informational events, held on Friday mornings at 7:30 A.M., with fascinating speakers, and were very well promoted and attended by students, Faculty, staff, community representatives, and others.

Sher said we can do a fall and spring event and still maintain our Virtual eLearning conference site. People are willing to pay memberships, and people can come to all of these events.

Tim is willing to book facilities and get speakers, and will set up a working template for such.

We will have to do a better job of sending out better emails that are colorful. Tim will get the model together, using Illustrator software, and will create a very good looking invitation.

Then Bobbie, with Alex’s approval, will make the Tuesday, November 11th meeting a Full Board Meeting, so we can present these ideations to the entire board.

Minutes respectfully submitted by Bobbie Kraver, and edited by Tim Dosemagen, 30 October, 2008.

Cordially,

Dr. Tim Dosemagen
