GAZeL Board Meeting
January 24, 2008 Audio Meeting
Attending: Alex, Bobbie, Steve, Richard, Maggie, Kelley, Sheri, Ted C and Casey
Alex called the meeting to order and thanked each of our sponsors.
Discussion about February Conference
Concern was expressed for low number of registrations which was followed by a discussion of how to get more attendees and sponsors. While it was recognized that we need a contingency plan, it was felt that we would still get more registrants at the last moment.
Portal Development and Research Maggie and Kelley
Work is going on with Lauryn Wingate and Global Media but the frosting on the site is still to be determined and implemented. There are going to be three 30-second Public Service spots airing soon. Kelley is working on these.
Membership
Sheri led the discussion about giving a membership discount but we will not be offering any for the Summit 2008 event. The conference will be the kickoff of the new membership drive. She will have a membership table at the Summit. Sheri will have a newsletter ready in about a week to incent members to come to the conference.
CEO Breakfast
Bobbie described how the breakfast went well and people stayed an hour after to network and play with the XO + ASUS eeePC computers. Three Honorary Board Members were given free memberships at the breakfast. They were Dr. Pepicello, Richard Brincefield and Ted Kraver. Mark Edwards from ASU was the first to buy a GAZeL membership. The announcement was followed by applause from the CEO Breakfast group.
Golf Tournament
Alex announced that he and Kelley are still trying to select a course and a date. They are also discussing about having a dinner the night before with a silent auction. The OLPC + ASUS laptop will also be a theme with this tournament.
Other Topics
Alex asked the Board to be thinking about new possible events for 2008.
The next meeting will be an Executive Committee Meeting at 12:00 Tuesday February 12th mostly concerning the Summit 2008 Conference.
The next General Board Meeting will be Thursday February 28th at noon to discuss future GAZeL activities and networking events. Bobbie mentioned Dee Andrews Lab.
