Alex called meeting to order at 12:10.

CEO Breakfast 

Bobbie discussed the Jan 17, 2008 CEO Breakfast. She says that arrangements have been made to hold this networking event at the Scottsdale Chapparal. She says that emails will be sent in November. Bobbie needs help to go over the list of executives from last year to send invitations. Steve offered to go through it. No other networking events will be scheduled this year. The next networking event will probably be in March 2008.

Membership + Newsletter 

Sheri discussed the Insights Newsletter and ask Board members to make suggestions for the newsletter. The newsletter highlights a GAZeL member who is active on the GAZeL research committee. She will contact Veronica to see if she can use her name and ask her to contribute an article or two. The Board was asked to suggest other members who have long been active and have made many contributions. Janey Sullivan, Sheri's colleague, has volunteered to work with Sheri on the Insights newsletter. Janey has good jounalism skills. Sheri also mentioned that the membership drive will begin January 2008. Sheri will make a list of marketing activities to support the upcoming Membership Drive. Sheri will then meet with Maggie and Kelley to help her plan how to implement the marketing activities. These plans will be handed over to Intramedia after the Golf event in November.

MOTION: Richard suggested that we replace the copyright statement with the Creative Commons License. The Board was assured that this would require "permission to use" and no copying of copyrighted materials. Richard made a motion and Bob seconded the motion. The Board unamiously appoved the motion. Here's the link to the current GAZeL Terms that Kelley has since implemented.

GAZeL Portal 

Kelley discussed the filming of the GAZeL president's video. When finished, he will add this video to the GAZeL Portal using the YouTube interface. Members who want to see an example, can go to http://www.azelearning.net/videos. Board members were asked to fill out their biographical information on the GAZeL Portal site at: http://www.gazel.us/board. Kelley also asked members for press release sources.

GAZeL Research Committee 

Maggie mentioned that the next Research Committee meeting is 31 October at 12pm. The two main agenda items are (1) setting 2008 priorities and (2) getting ready for the Summit 2008 workshops.

Summit 2008 Conference 

Steve discussed the February 20, 2008 Summit Conference progress. Speakers are being hard to tie down. The previous Morning Keynoters are no longer available.  Brian Williams and John W from Microsoft will be the new Morning Keynoters.  They will talk about the theme: "eLearning and Collaboration in the Global Economy". This topic should set the tone for the entire Summit. Steve hopes to have a conference call with both speakers before the conference. The Board approved  Francine Hardaway, a GAZeL Board Member, and Matt Moran as the new Lunch Keynoters.  The lunch presentation will focus on the broader topic of Web 2.0, Social Media and Social Networking such as Second life, UTube, My Space, etc. We will explore the policy and strategy implications of the adoption of these technologies in education and the workplace. Francine is a great advocate and sort of an Arizona guru for these technologies. Matt Moran with Kreative Knowledge
(http://www.kreativeknowledge.com/speaking) is an author and a dynamic professional speaker. He lives in Arizona and is willing to participate at no charge, except maybe a free booth. He and Francine both know each other and both felt they could do a great job together. Francine though Matt would be great. Steve mentioned that we have our first Gold Sponsor for the conference. He also mentioned that he will ask the GAZeL members that were faciliators for ATIC's workshops, at a recent event, to als be facillitators for the Summit 08 conference. The Board agreed to charge $10 for the reception for those participants to only attend the reception, not the conference. Participants will pay register online, pay by check, paypal, or at the door.

Golf Networking Event 

Golf Tournament Status - Alex/Kelley have had a discussion with Doug Rankin at The Legacy Golf Course to make arrangements for Friday, Nov 30. The resort will give us the same terms as last year. Alex mentioned that it is important to find sponsors for this networking event.
