Membership Notes
Membership Meeting 9 July 2007
We discussed the following items and Sheri will provide some of the following to the Board on Tuesday, 10 July
- Identify GAZeL Membership Groups (Audience)
- Identify promoters for each of the identified groups
- Help promoters set up forums to support the identified groups (e.g., implement code of conduct, ethics, policies, etc.)
- Identify marketing strategies for "incentivising" each group (e.g., K-12+ wants Best Practices, Good Tools, etc.). For each of the groups, answer the question, what is it in for me.
- Provide timeline for implementing membership scheme from no membership to different levels. The schedule will include when we will implement the promoters, marketing blitz, CRM and introduction before the September conference.
- Discuss potential reports that the membership committee can provide the Board.
- Introduce user interest surveys that GAZeL can implement.
- Discuss GAZeL potential to attract sponsors.
- Expand the User info to include products and services. Does the Board have other ideas.
- Identify criteria for evaluation (what is success).
Tasks
Kelley - put membership comparison matrix on the web
Sheri - update the membership pages on the portal
Maggie - ensure that the Mission statement gets improved by the Board.

Home page:
1st paragraph isn’t education friendly. [is this the mission statement?]
Right pane heading, NAVIGATION, is confusing. This is COMMUNITY/INTERACTION…? [this is the main menu item for navigating the site. when you login in this changes to your username and more options are available. however, i'll give some thoutght to a better name]
News Aggregator is redundant with GAZEL NEWS [we have multiple newsfeeds, i'll change the menu item to 'all newsfeeds'
Under Login/Register, can we use Become a Member instead of Create new account? That way everyone who registers agrees to base membership and gets on our list, and only members get the benefits.[i think this should go in the faq regarding membership. the terminology for signing up is standard for social networking at this point and i hesitate to move from the expected... i'll add some more meat to the faq entries and elsewhere.]
Community page:
This page refers people to Forums. Do we need both? [yes, the community link is to be greatly expanded]
eLearning page:
I’ll help populate
Insights!
Biweekly? We need a team to build it.
GAZEL
Board email addresses use words instead of characters [this is part of the anti-spam features of the site - no spambot harvesting]
Sponsors—I’d go smallest sum first.
FAQs
Links don’t look like links. Can they have arrows to open like the right pane? [will look in to this]
Password change:
After changing (test), it allowed me to review my order & payment status, etc.
Also, Address Book is for purchases. Do we need these? this ispart of the ecommerce pachage. i'll look in to it]
When it says “1 time login, change your password” it would help if it said where to go to change the password. For newbies, this could be confusing.
Instructions should be given to say that the PW has to be 6 characters, instead of rejecting passwords and making people do the process over. [great comments!, thanks]
